PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method which enables coating of a straight stripe pattern or a meandering stripe pattern also on the surface of an object to be coated. SOLUTION: The coating method comprises the step of allowing a paint 5 to drop down in a curtain form from a paint discharge port 4 of a flow coater 1, and of applying the paint 5 dropping from the paint discharge port 4 on the surface of the object to be coated 2 which is conveyed. A blocking member 6 movable in a longitudinal direction of the paint discharge port 4 is arranged below the paint discharge port 4. The blocking member 6 is provided with a plurality of paint passage mouths 9 to allow the paint 5 dropping from the paint discharge port 4 to pass through partially, in the longitudinal direction of the paint discharge port 4. The blocking member 6 is made either in a moving state to move in a length direction of the paint discharge port 4 or in a stopped state to stop at an arbitrary position in the length direction of the paint discharge port 4, and at the same time, the paint 5 is dropped from the paint discharge port 4.
