The apparatus (10) has a printing plate releasing device (11) and a transferring device(12) for releasing a printing plate (4) and for transferring and ejecting the plate, respectively. A transport device (16) transports a new printing plate to a printing unit (2) . A mounting device (13) transfers the new plate and mounts the new plate to a plate cylinder (3) of the printing unit. A handling device (15) conveys the new plate into an operating position. A tracking device (14) tracks another printing plate of same print space position for transferring through the mounting device.
