PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a hydrodynamic bearing device compact while maintaining supporting force in the direction of thrust. SOLUTION: In the hydrodynamic bearing device, the outer peripheral face 8d of a bearing sleeve 8 is formed on the inner diameter side beyond a first hydrodynamic pressure generation part B1. In this case, the bearing sleeve 8 can be thinner while securing the first thrust hydrodynamic pressure generation part B1 whose thrust load capacity is similar to that of a thrust hydrodynamic pressure generation part conventionally provided on the end face of the bearing sleeve. Thus, the bearing sleeve 8 can be thinner without sacrificing bearing performance in the direction of thrust. The total amount of lubricating oil filled into the bearing device is therefore reduced, and the capacity of a buffer function is reduced so that a seal part 9 can be made compact and thus the hydrodynamic bearing device 1 can be made compact.
