A software package update method of a mobile communication terminal using ad hoc communication, the mobile communication terminal for performing the method, a serving terminal setup method in an ad hoc network, and a software package update method of a client terminal using a serving terminal in the ad hoc network are provided to receive a software package from another terminal participating in the ad hoc network to perform software updating, thereby receiving an FOTA(Firmware Over The Air) service without being influenced by network and server states. An ad hoc mode is set so that a mobile communication terminal participates in an ad hoc network(S510-S565). A software package is received from a terminal located within the ad hoc network(S570). A software package updating process is carried out by using the received software package(S580,S590). An encoded software package is received from another terminal receiving an intrinsic ID value, by using the intrinsic ID value. The received encoded software package is decoded by using the intrinsic ID value.
