<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contents transmitting/reception system, where a trouble resulting from the communication environment or the state of network can be detected and new factors of trouble can be dealt with, and to provide a self-test method for the content transmission/reception system. <P>SOLUTION: Identification information of a video image receiving/reproducing terminal which is a self-test object is registered in a center unit; and when video image receiving/reproducing terminal is actuated, its identification information is transmitted to the center unit. Only when the identification information thus transmitted matches the registered identification information, will a self-test program that indicates the self-test execution content be distributed to the video image-receiving/reproducing terminal.
