PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a powdery coloring material comprising polyion complex fine particles in combination with a polymer dye, in which an average particle diameter is small and particle size distribution is also small, and storage stability is excellent, and also provide a powdery coloring material obtained by drying the same. SOLUTION: An aqueous coloring material comprises (I) a polymer compound containing (A) an epoxy resin residue, (B) a cationic hydrophilic polymer segment and (C) a nonionic hydrophilic polymer segment, and (II) a coloring compound containing an anionic group. One embodiment of the material is one wherein the epoxy resin residue (A) is obtained by drying colloidal aqueous coloring agent hydrophobically combined in an aqueous medium.
