PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MRI apparatus with extremely simple structure, capable of obtaining a high-quality magnetic resonance image without imposing a mental burden on a patient. SOLUTION: The MRI apparatus comprises a gantry 10 with a cylindrical imaging opening 10a; a top panel 22 for moving the patient P forward/backward relative to the imaging opening 10a; a magnetostatic field magnet 12 to generate a magnetostatic field inside the imaging opening 10a; a gradient magnetic coil 13 to generate a gradient magnetic field inside the imaging opening 10a; an upper high-frequency coil 14 disposed on the upper side inside the imaging opening 10a to receive magnetic resonance signals from the patient P disposed inside the imaging opening 10a; a lower high-frequency coil 15 disposed under the top panel 22 to receive magnetic resonance signals from the patient P disposed inside the imaging opening 10a; and a support mechanism 40 to movably support the upper high-frequency coil 14 and the lower high-frequency coil 15.
