摘要 <p>This invention provides a method for manufacturing a glass substrate which can form a stripe pattern uniformly and finely on the surface of the glass substrate by super precision polishing and can increase a recording capacity of a magnetic disk. The manufacturing method includes the step of inspecting, before the super precision polishing, whether or not the Young's modulus (Es) of the uppermost surface portion as measured by a nano-indentation method and the Young's modulus (Eg) as measured by an ultrasonic resonance method, or the degree of hardness (Hs) of the uppermost surface portion as measured by the nano-indentation method and the Vickers hardness (Hv), respectively satisfy the following inequality expressions: 0.8Eg &lt; Es &lt; 1.2Eg (1) 0.8Hv &lt; Hs &lt; 1.2Hv (2)</p>
