A vehicle event recorder ( I ) having an integrated web server (2) according to the present invention includes a user interface and control system that may be implemented with commercially available hardware and software. In one embodiment, a vehicle event recorder is coupled to a network having a workstation node. The workstation (5) employs a commercially available web server to perform a plurality of functions such as viewing, addressing, controlling, and transferring data through a data exchange executed according to simple IP protocols. When a vehicle equipped with a vehicle event recorder according to the present invention returns to a base, such as a user's home, a network connection is performed. A local server can display predefined system controls through web pages provided by the web server integrated with the vehicle event recorder unit. |
