METHOD OF DETERMINING REFERENCE PICTURE DURING INTERLACED ENCODING OF IMAGE ENCODING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional image encoding device deletes only up to three reference pictures in encoding of a B picture, being insufficient for more reduction in memory amount and lower power consumption, and conventional determination of reference pictures based upon only the magnitude of movement results in a decrease in compression efficiency for video such that a top field and a bottom field constituting the same frame have every high correlation.

SOLUTION: Provided is a method for determining a reference picture in interlaced video encoding. A field having the same parity is included in the reference picture when a movement is small. A field having a short distance is included in the reference picture when the movement is large. When the correlation between fields constituting the same frame is high, the reference picture is so selected for a second field that a first field is included in the reference picture.
