PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of reducing an interaction between a reverse tilt domain generated in a pixel and a reverse tilt formed in a pixel corresponding to an adjacent pixel electrode, improving an image quality defect due to a lateral electric field and obtaining a higher image quality and to provide a projection type liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display element having two substrates opposed to each other, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the two substrates, a plurality of pixel electrodes A1, A2, A3 and A4 disposed on facing surfaces of the respective substrates so as to form matrix-shaped pixels, alignment layers formed on the two substrates for aligning a liquid crystal in the liquid crystal layer in a prescribed direction and a spacer SP formed between pixel electrodes which are adjacently disposed between the two substrates, at least one of the plurality of pixel electrodes A1, A2, A3 and A4 has a chamfered shape so that an end part facing the spacer SP forms one side of a polygon.
