PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for notifying a user about the possibility of image quality reduction caused by excessive stop that may become a problem in a digital camera. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus 10 comprises: a CCD sensor 17 on which a part of an object image guided via an optical system is made incident; a focus control means (31, ST22) for controlling the position of a lens constituting the optical system, based on an image signal obtained from the CCD sensor 17 so that the object image is focused on a photo-detection plane of the CCD sensor 17; a resolution calculating means (ST28, ST29) for calculating a resolution by inputting the image signal from the CCD sensor 17 and analyzing a frequency of the image signal in a state where the object image is focused by the focus control means; and a display means (26, ST32) for comparing the resolution calculated by the resolution calculating means with a reference resolution and displaying a result of the comparison.
