PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dialyzer which can prevent poor cleaning from being caused by a mistake in the reconnection of an undiluted solution passage to a cleaning port portion from an undiluted dialyzate solution vessel and which enables quick detection of such poor connection, and also to provide a cleaning method for the dialyzer. SOLUTION: A solution circuit 2 of the dialyzer 1 comprises a water supply passage 12 which supplies purified water to a measurement chamber 11, the undiluted solution passages 13A and 13B which merge into a purified water passage and which are connected to the undiluted-dialyzate-solution vessels 20A and 20B, a branch passage 14 which branches off from the purified water passage, and a cleaning fluid passage 15 which circulates a cleaning fluid to the branch passage. The solution circuit is provided with a conductivity measuring device 29 as a dialyzate solution detector, and a deaerating tank 34 as a gas detector. In the cleaning of the dialyzer, the purified water is substituted for the solution of the solution circuit through a pre-cleaning step. Then, when the conductivity measuring device makes a determination means 4a of a control unit 4 recognize that the solution circulated through the solution circuit is not the dialyzate solution, the determination means 4a shifts the pre-cleaning step to a final-cleaning step using the cleaning fluid.
