PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cyclic olefin polymers, by which the cyclic olefin polymers can be produced with higher yields than those of conventional methods and the molecular weights thereof can be easily controlled as desired. SOLUTION: The method for producing cyclic olefin polymers comprises polymerizing cyclic olefin monomers in the presence of a catalyst in a solvent by irradiating with a microwave, wherein the solvent has permittivity of 3 or higher and an olefin compound having a terminal double bond is used as a chain transfer agent. Also provided are addition polymers of cyclic olefin monomers, which are obtained by reacting and polymerizing cyclic olefin monomers according to the method for producing cyclic olefin polymers.
