PLASMA DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DRIVING PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL

In a plasma display device and a method for driving a plasma display panel, stable writing discharge is generated without increasing a voltage required for writing. The plasma display device is provided with a plasma display panel having a plurality of scanning electrodes and sustaining electrodes which configure a display electrode pair. The plasma display device is also provided with a sustaining pulse generating circuit, which has a plurality of subfields having an initializing period, a writing period and a sustaining period in one field period, and generates sustaining pulses by varying the inclination of the start up of the sustaining pulse in the sustaining period. The sustaining pulse generating circuit generates at least two kinds of sustaining pulses whose start up of one sustaining pulse is sharper than that of the other sustaining pulse in at least one subfield sustaining period among the subfields. The sustaining pulse generating circuit applies the sustaining pulses having sharp start up to one electrode of the display electrode pair consecutively two or more times at the end of the sustaining period.
