A multi media reproducing device allocating a data block size at a portable terminal according to a storage medium, and a method thereof are provided to allocate the data block size dynamically and to prevent performance of a multi media Codec from being deteriorated according to data access speed of the storage medium. A multi media reproducing device allocating a data block size at a portable terminal according to a storage medium comprises a data block size calculating unit(116), a memory(102), and a control unit(100). The data block size calculating unit computes a data block size which is transmitted between the storage medium(104,106,108) and a Codec(110) according to the storage medium. The memory reads out and stores image or video data by the computed data block size unit from the storage medium when reproduction of image or audio is requested. The control unit reads and decodes the data stored in the memory, and reproduces the image or audio.
