PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor capable of forming differential pressure between a suction chamber and a motor chamber even if high pressure side pressure is not sufficiently high. SOLUTION: This compressor 1 has a suction port 13 being an inlet from an external circuit for taking a refrigerant in a compression space 18, the suction chamber 15 arranged on the downstream side of the suction port 13 and formed as a pressure area lower than a suction port 13 area, the motor chamber 3a provided with a shaft 10 of a rotor 9 arranged in the substantially horizontal direction and gathering lubricating oil separated from the refrigerant in a lower part, and a differential pressure forming means for raising the pressure of the motor chamber 3a higher than the pressure of the suction chamber 15. This differential pressure forming means comprises an orifice 14 being a narrowly-formed passage for connecting the suction port 13 and the suction chamber 15, and a connecting passage 12 for introducing a refrigerant having pressure higher than that of the refrigerant of the suction chamber 15 to the motor chamber 3a.
