PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyester staple fibers usable as a binder fiber in production of a nonwoven fabric with a dry and a wet system, imparting a high adhesion effect even in thermal adhesion at a lower temperature and improving processing speed, and preferably usable as a nonwoven fabric used in a specific field such as a filter cloth in water processing or in osmosis membrane, etc. SOLUTION: The polyester staple fiber comprises a polyester comprising alkylene terephthalate unit as principal component, having 1.0-30 mm of fiber length, less than 0.0150 of birefringence, and 0.01-0.15 mass% of titanium oxide content in the fiber.
