PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-image-quality AC type PDP excelling in white color balance. SOLUTION: This AC type PDP is provided with this back plate composed by forming, on a substrate, a phosphor layer formed of a phosphor emitting light by being excited by an ultraviolet ray having a wavelength of 220-270 nm through a wavelength conversion layer formed of fluorine-containing magnesium oxide containing 0.01-10 mass% of fluorine, and having magnesium oxide purity not smaller than 99.8 mass% (in this case, the magnesium oxide purity is the magnesium oxide content in the total quantity excluding the contained fluorine) and a BET specific surface area of 0.1-30 m2/g.
