PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser scanning optical apparatus and an image forming apparatus that can suppress heat-affected degradation in image quality. SOLUTION: The laser scanning optical apparatus 1 is used for the image forming apparatus that forms a desired image by compositing toner images formed on a plurality of photoreceptor drums. Laser diodes 2Y, 2M, 2C and 2K generate laser beams. Mirrors 3Y, 3M and 3C reflect the laser beam. A polygon mirror 4 deflects the laser beam. A part of the plurality of laser beams is used for the generation of synchronization signals. The number of mirrors installed between the laser diode 2K generating the laser beam used for the generation of the synchronization signals and the polygon mirror 4 is less than the number of mirrors installed between the laser diodes 2Y, 2M and 2C generating other laser beams and the polygon mirror 4.
