PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garnet type compound designed based on a novel material design theory capable of estimating a compound area where a garnet structure is formed. SOLUTION: The garnet type compound expressed by a general formula, A<SB>3</SB>B<SB>2</SB>C<SB>3</SB>O<SB>12</SB>(where, in the formula, A is one or a plurality of kinds of elements forming an A site, B is one or a plurality of kinds of elements forming a B site, C is one or a plurality of kinds of elements forming a C site and O is oxygen atom) satisfies following formula (1) and (2), 0.50≤rB/rA≤0.86 (1) and 11.70≤a≤13.02 (2), where rA is the average ion radius of one or a plurality of kinds of elements forming the A site, rB is the average ion radium of one or a plurality of kinds of elements forming the B site and (a) is lattice constant.
