PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide device for an elevator, which increases accuracy of a guide rail by a simple structure and dispenses with a fitting work for smoothing a step in a joint. SOLUTION: In the guide device for the elevator, a polishing part 5 coming into slide-contact with the guide rail is provided in a guide shoe 6 of the guide device sliding along the guide rail to guide an elevating body, and the elevating body provided with the guide shoe 6 is made to run for a predetermined period of time from the time of installation of the elevator to smooth the guide rail and to achieve the target performance set in advance. Since the polishing part 5 is provided in the guide shoe 6 provided in the elevator in advance and designed to have comparatively large strength, it is unnecessary to change a basic structure of the guide shoe.
