PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus capable of enhancing a productivity in monochrome printing while reducing a power consumption without degrading a productivity in full-color printing. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus 1, which is provided with a print mode switching means 10A2 for switching between a monochrome print mode and a color print mode, and a fixing unit 13c2 in which a first fixing temperature for full-color printing is set higher than a second fixing temperature for monochrome printing, is also provided with a temperature control means 22 that exerts control such that regardless of a print mode set at the initial stage, the fixing temperature is set to the second fixing temperature when a power source is turned on, and the fixing temperature is switched to the first fixing temperature in response to an external input relating to full-color printing.
