PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus enabling to recognize reasons why rewriting processing of a firmware is prohibited when the processing is prohibited. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 can execute firmware rewriting processing in which the inputted firmware is temporarily stored in a first storage means B upon a start instruction from the outside, and then, is written into a rewritable second storage means C. The image forming apparatus 1 includes a detecting means A for detecting whether the first storage means B is available; a notification means D; and a control means E for prohibiting firmware rewriting processing and allowing a notification means D to broadcast that the first storage means is being used when the detecting means A detects that the first storage means B is currently used in a case where the start instruction is input from the outside.
