PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition for attenuating stenosis after balloon angioplasty. SOLUTION: The pharmaceutical composition, to be parenterally administered, is provided, containing a sufficiently effective amount of a tissue factor pathway inhibitor(TFPI) to reduce the extent of stenosis developed in a subject after undergoing balloon angioplasty, and being held by a physiologically acceptable excipient. An exemplary amount of the TFPI is from about 0.5 mg/kg to about 6 mg/kg during a prolonged administration of about 3 to 24 h. The TFPI is (Ala<SP>-1</SP>)-TFPI(1-277) or a natural TFPI(1-276).
