PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide circuit arrangement capable of calculating inclined rotation of a scanning unit relatively to a scale. SOLUTION: The present invention discloses the circuit arrangement for calculating an inclination error in a position measuring instrument having at least one incremental track on a scale main body in the position measuring instrument. A scanning device has the first scanning area and the second scanning area perpendicularly to a measuring direction, thereby can generate the at least one first position signal when reading the at least one incremental track by the first scanning area, and the at least one second position signal when read by the second scanning area. The at least one first position signal and the at least one second position signal are supplied to a computation unit, to generate an at least one inclination error signal in the computation unit, by an addition operation and/or a subtraction operation based on the at least one first position signal and the at least one second position signal, and an amplitude of the inclination error signal is determined by an inclination angle, and is a reference for an inclined rotation angle.
