The module has an air bag (12), and an inflator (14) providing an inflation fluid to inflate a protection device, where the inflation fluid flow from the inflator is transverse to a central axis (16) of the inflator. A heat shield (70) comprises a piece of material e.g. woven nylon, folded about the inflator and including a wall portion (102) interposed between a portion of the inflator and the device. The inflation gas flows into a chamber (105) and impinges either on the air bag or an inner surface (104) of the wall portion of the heat shield to divert the gas towards a central opening (74).
