An anti-shake apparatus is provided to remove the necessity for a detector different from an angular velocity sensor, thereby simplifying configuration of the apparatus and correctly performing anti-shake operations even when offset from an angular velocity detecting unit is generated. Angular velocity sensors(26a,26b) detect angular velocity. A controller(21) controls the angular velocity sensor and performs an anti-shake operation based on a signal outputted from the angular velocity sensor. The controller performs modification of an offset output in a value of the outputted signal during a predetermined period of the anti-shake operation. The predetermined period is a first time that elapses after a release switch(13a) of a photographing apparatus including an anti-shake apparatus is set to an ON state.
