A method for providing a WLAN service by using a leased digital TV and a system thereof are provided to enable a service provider to diffuse easily the demand of the digital TV by using an AP(Access Point) and to provide various services for WLAN service subscribers. A method for providing a WLAN service by using a leased digital TV comprises the following several steps. If the first user turns on a leased digital TV embedding a WLAN card, the digital TV accesses a management authentication server by using an embedded server, and checks whether the first user is a lease service subscriber(510-550). If the first user is the lease service subscriber, a TV tuner of the digital TV gets operated(560). If a terminal of the second user accesses the AP of the digital TV, the digital TV accesses a management authentication server by using the embedded server, and checks whether the second user is a lease service subscriber. If the second user is the lease service subscriber, the WLAN service is provided for the terminal of the second user. |
