An expansion type screen basket is provided to supply cooling water of high quality and protect the rotary mesh screen itself by increasing alien substance removal efficiency of the rotary mesh screen when alien substances contained in seawater flow into a rotary mesh screen in a large amount at once. An expansion type screen basket includes a basket frame(4), a mesh(5), and clamps(6), wherein the mesh is fixed to the basket frame by the clamps, bolts(7), nuts(8) and washers(9). The expansion type screen basket can be formed in a circular, triangular or elliptical shape.
