An image pickup apparatus is provided to remove the necessity of disassembly a main body to adjust it, easily perform adjustment, and improve maintenance. A right side(3b) of an apparatus body(3) has a grip section(12) projecting to the right. The grip section includes a part of the cabinet(2) and a cover covering the lower end part of the cabinet. The grip section has a shape having a dilation having the substantial center of the right side(12a) at the most right. The right side is slightly contoured to fit to the hand. A top surface(12b) of the grip section has a zoom key(14) and a shooting key(15), which are spaced apart in the front to back direction. The zoom key has front and back ends functioning as a first operated section and a second operated section, respectively. The top surface of the grip section has an open knob(16) in front of the zoom key. When the open knob is slid, the grip section is pivoted about the lower end part so that a tape cassette can be installed to a mechanical deck inside. The grip section internally has a cassette holder. The tape cassette is inserted to and held in the cassette holder and is installed to the mechanical deck. The mechanical deck has a case functioning as a base plate to which parts are mounted, a head drum, slope guides and tape guides. Adjustment screws are mounted to the tips of the tape guides.
