874,249. Paper &c. containing synthetic resin. SOC. DE LA VISCOSE SUISSE. April 10, 1959 [April 14, 1958; Sept. 13, 1958; March 9, 1959; March 10, 1959], No. 12282/59. Class 96. Paper &c. is made from polyamide fibres of all types, e.g. lustred or matted, and/or from e.g. kraft or unbleached sulphate cellulose pulp or regenerated cellulose filaments and is impregnated, as by spraying or by use of a rubber roller, with a solution, dispersion, or emulsion of an N-alkoxy polyamide resin having a unit structure where n is 1 to 6, and R is H or OH. 2 to 12% of an acidic catalyst, e.g. boric, citric, oxalic or maleic acid, or ammonium chloride may be included. After impregnation, the paper &c. may be pressed at over 100‹ C. e.g. at 125‹ to 200‹ C. and at 20 kg. per sq. cm. pressure. The polyamide fibres, e.g. of 1.5 to 6 denier nylon of 3 to 10 mm. staple length, may be included in any ratio to the cellulosic fibres to increase porosity. They may be pre-treated with a non-ionic wetting agent and may be dispersed with carboxymethyl cellulose. Resin-alum size &c. may be included. Before or after hardening, the paper may be treated on one or both sides with starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, fatty acid derivatives or acrylic polymers &c. |
