<p>A cold spray system (Fig 1) using a high speed gas flow (1) to accelerate a stream of particles on to a substrate 7, (5) to form coatings and layers 8, is equipped with a laser generator 10 to heat the particulate 2, 4 and substrate 7, (5), and melt and clear blockages that may occur in the associated converging/diverging nozzle 6.The beam of laser light 11 is positioned along the same axis 1 as the stream of particles that emanates from the nozzle 6. The dimensions of laser beam dimension 11 are either equal to or smaller than that of the throat 12 of outlet nozzle 6. Heated gas (2), 100-900{C, enters the arrangement via port 2 whilst particulate (3) enters via port 4. Other elements include annular cavities 3, 5 and window 9.</p> |
