An ink jet recording head is provided to form a high resolution image by locating the combination of a large ink droplet jetting nozzle row and a medium ink droplet jetting nozzle row at one side of a common liquid chamber and the combination of the large ink droplet jetting nozzle row and a small ink droplet jetting nozzle row at the other side of the common liquid chamber. An ink jet recording head is movable in a main scanning direction. A first discharge port array group is arranged at one side of a common liquid chamber(C1a,M1a,Ya,M2a,C2a), and has a first discharge port array and a second discharge port array adjacent to the first discharge port array. The liquid discharge amount of a discharge port of the first discharge port array is different from that of the second discharge port array. The discharge ports of the first and the second discharge port array are arranged in zigzags. A second discharge port array group is arranged at the other side of the common liquid chamber, and has a common discharge amount discharge port array and a non-common discharge amount discharge port array. The common discharge amount discharge port array has a discharge port which discharges the same amount of liquid as the first or second discharge port array. The non-common discharge amount discharge port array has a discharge port which discharges the different amount of liquid from the liquid discharge amount of the discharge port of the first discharge array group. The discharge ports of the common and the non-common discharge amount discharge port array are arranged in zigzags. A plurality of sets includes the first and the second discharge port array groups respectively, and is provided to at least cyan and magenta colors respectively.
