A method for using a system upgrade process in common is provided to improve use convenience by upgrading a system and application image between the same or different controllers of various digital devices in a common way. An image includes a header, which includes a common upgrade method and file information, is transferred by a common image transfer protocol(S10). Header information of the image is analyzed and an upgrade procedure is checked(S12). The system is upgraded according to the analyzed upgrading method(S13). The header of the image includes a file name, size, and type, a purpose, a system version, a checksum and the upgrade method. The image has a common extension capable of discriminating the system. The image has a common file name capable of checking the system version.
