摘要 An apparatus and a method for measuring thickness of molten mold flux are provided to keep the mold level uniform during the continuous casting system by using an eddy-current type molten metal surface level sensing unit and a radiation level sensing unit, thereby facilitating lubrication and stabilizing heat exchange between a mold and a piece. An apparatus for measuring thickness of molten mold flux comprises an eddy-current type molten metal surface level sensing unit(100), a radiation level sensing units, and a control unit. The eddy-current type molten metal surface level sensing unit measures a surface level of a molten metal(12). The radiation level sensing unit, comprising a radiation emission unit(220) and a radiation detecting unit(240), measures a free surface level of a molten mold flux(20) existing on the upper side of the molten metal. The control unit calculates the thickness of the molten mold flux from the molten metal surface level and the free surface level, measured by the molten metal surface level sensing unit and the radiation level sensing unit. The control unit includes a differential arithmetic unit calculating the difference between the measured values from the molten metal surface level sensing unit and the radiation level sensing unit, and an amplification arithmetic unit calculating the thickness of the molten mold flux by multiplying the difference between the measured values by the ratio of molten mold flux density/molten metal density.
