A coin selector which prevents illegal actuation of a coin sensor (116) for real coin detection comprises a coin inlet (118), a real/fake discriminating unit (108) a coin passage (112) downstream of the discriminating unit (108) in which the direction of movement of a coin is changed, with a coin moving in a first plane, the coin then moving to a displaced further portion (114), in a different plane, where the coin sensor (116) detects the coin. A timer compares the time between a coin passing a sensor (152) and the time when (or if) it passes sensor (116) for further security. A coin cancel unit removes a coin from the selector when the apparatus to be operated is unable to accept the coin. The selector also includes an anti-stringing pullback-preventing arrangement. The coin selector is reduced in size and has a high coin processing rate. |
