The spider (4), made from carbon steel, has radiating journals (41, 42, 43, 44) with external roller bearings (5A, 5B, 5C, 5D) in a number of rows. The outer end of each journal has a concave cavity (46) with a spherical base and flared sides, extending to a depth equivalent to between 30 and 70 per cent of the axial length of the bearings. The outer peripheral surface of each journal has a series of stepped faces (45a, 45b, 45c) that reduce in diameter towards the journal's free end. |
