An electrode for a primary or secondary cell is made by forming a sheet of silver chloride and chemically converting the silver chloride to silver oxide. The conversion may be effected within the cell by the alkaline electrolyte, a suitable electrolyte being an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide or zincate. The silver chloride is deposited as a film on a current collector of expanded, woven or perforated silver or copper or a network of silver or copper wire. The cell may be of the primable type. |
