A device for striking off moulding sand projecting above the filled flask comprises a cylinder 20 with metal strips 21, and a feeler device 18 mounted on a lifting arrangement 1-4, the feeler device automatically adjusting the cylinder to the variable height of the flask. The flask K arriving from the moulding machine first actuates a limit switch 1, causing the piston 16 carrying the feeler member 18 to move downwardly, then a limit switch II causing pressure oil to be applied to the upper ends of cylinders 1 and the cylinder and feeler device on supports 7, 8 to be lowered. When the feeler member 18 contacts the flask spring 17 is compressed until a switch III is actuated, throttling the pressure oil supply to the pistons 1 and slowing the descent of the cylinder &c. until the cylinder is at flask level, when a switch IV is actuated so that the cylinder and lifting system remain halted, the feeler 18 rises, and the drive to the rolls 23 is switched on so that the flask travels beneath the constantly-driven cylinder 20. Beyond the cylinder the flask actuates a limit switch V to restore the lifting assembly to its initial upper position. The cylinder and feeler device supports 7, 8 are in two parts and should the cylinder descend unintentionally when set to its operative position, an abutment surface 22 engages the flask and the supportmembers 8 rock upwardly, actuating a switch IV to cause the lifting system to be moved upwardly and the rest of the control circuit to be deenergized. |
