An audio mute control device for a digital broadcasting receiver and a method thereof are provided to prevent audio data from being disconnected to an external connection device connected to the digital broadcasting receiver by blocking an audio output and simultaneously generating and outputting audio null data when it is necessary to perform audio mute operation. A microcomputer(16) monitors audio mute operation. An audio null data generator(19) generates audio mute data under the control of the microcomputer(16). An HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) transmitter(18) transmits the audio mute data generated in the audio null data generator(19) to an external connection device. The audio null data generator(19), which is a decoder, creates audio null data based on the audio mute control operation form the microcomputer.
