A heating element composition is provided to improve reaction maintenance and temperature maintenance as compared to a conventional heating element using quicklime when used for heating retort or instant foods. A heating element composition comprises: 15-25 parts by weight of calcium carbonate(CaCO3); 5-15 parts by weight of calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)2); 10-20 parts by weight of sodium bicarbonate(NaHCO3) or sodium carbonate(Na2CO3); 40-50 parts by weight of aluminum(Al) metal powder; and 3-7 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide(NaOH). To 40 parts by weight of the composition, 100-120 parts by weight of water is added to generate reaction heat from hydration and neutralization.
