An apparatus for removing alien substances on a roll surface is provided to remove alien substances stuck to the guiding roll even without stopping a line by installing an alien substance removing means at one side of a guiding roll moved by a transfer car installed on a loop to guide a strip. An apparatus for removing alien substances on a roll surface includes: a guiding roll installed on an upper part of a transfer car to guide movement of a strip; and an alien substance removing means(200) comprising a first cam(210) that comes in contact with an end portion of an outer peripheral surface of the guiding roll, a support plate(220) for supporting a first rotary shaft(211) on which the first cam is installed, a first spring(221) installed between the support plate and a fixed plate(230) installed on the transfer car such that the fixed plate is positioned at one side of the support plate, a bevel gear(240) installed on an end portion of the first rotary shaft to change the rotational direction of the first rotary shaft, a second cam(250) installed on a second rotary shaft(251) on which the bevel gear is installed, a moving rod(260) installed on the support plate and optionally moved by the second cam, a second spring(261) for elastically supporting the moving rod, and a blade(270) installed on an end portion of the moving rod and intermittently contacted with a surface of the guiding roll.
