A PLC(Power Line Communication) modem control system using an infrared remote controller, an ID setting method, and an operation control method are provided to enhance user convenience and control the operation of the PLC modem by setting a specific number for each installed modem. An ID setting function is selected through a key button unit of an infrared remote controller(S1). An ID specific number desired to be set is selected by using the key button unit(S2). A transmission key of the key button unit is pressed and data is continuously transmitted to a PLC modem via a transmission unit(S3). The PLC modem continuously receives the data via a receiving unit(S4). The PLC modem checks whether the received data is suitable for a corresponding protocol, analyzes the data, and if it corresponds to ID setting, the PLC modem stores the received ID in a memory(S5). The PLC modem reads the stored ID, transmits it to the infrared remote controller, and simultaneously indicates the data transmission through an LED and a buzzer and outputs an alarm(S6). The infrared remote controller continuously receives transmission data from the PLC modem(S7). The infrared remote controller checks whether the received data is suitable for a corresponding protocol, compares it with the transmitted set ID, and displays the corresponding results through a display unit and a buzzer and outputs alarm(S8).
