A method for generating a mosaic image and a recording medium having a recorded program are provided to minimize an empty space between tiles to widen an area of a detailed depiction expression and improve a search speed of a similar image. A position of a main tile is calculated(S310). A position of a sub-tile is calculated(S312). The direction of the tiles is calculated(S320). The size of the tiles is calculated(S330). Similar images to be rendered on the tiles are selected(S340). A mosaic result image is generated by rendering the similar images which have been selected with respect to the main tile and the sub-tile(S350).
