An organic light emitting diode display apparatus and a method for driving the same are provided to simplify a composition of external circuits for discharge without a design considering a turn-on voltage according to R, G, and B materials. A panel unit(110) includes a plurality of scan lines, a plurality of data lines crossing the scan lines, and a plurality of OLED(Organic Light-Emitting Diode) elements formed at intersections between the scan lines and the data lines. A panel driving unit(120) applies a driving voltage signal for driving the OLED elements through the scan lines and the data lines to the OLED elements in a driving period of the OLED elements. A comparison unit(130) compares a voltage between both ends of the OLED elements with a reference voltage in a discharging period of the OLED elements. A switching unit(140) is switched according to a compared result of the comparison unit in order to perform a discharging process while a level of the voltage between both ends of the OLED elements approaches a level of the reference voltage.
