A method for measuring insulation resistance in an IT(Information Technology) network is provided to check symmetrical variation and unsymmetrical variation reliably. A method for measuring insulation resistance in an IT network includes a DC voltage intermediate circuit(30), at least one self-commutated inverters(50a,50b) including first power switches and a measurement apparatus(80) measuring an intermediate voltage for a ground potential(100) by comprising voltage dividers and two potential measurement units. According to the method, the first power switches or the second power switches are closed and potentials(Up,Um) and an intermediate circuit voltage(Uzk) are measured to determine insulation resistance(Rf) during offline measurement. During online measurement, the potentials are measured, and time profile of the measurement is properly evaluated.
