A dust collecting unit for a steam and vacuum cleaner is provided to prevent leakage of water from a dust collecting container by forming a through-hole sucking air and a projection unit for surrounding the through-hole. A dust collecting unit for a steam and vacuum cleaner comprises a dust collecting container, a through-hole, and a projection unit(164). The dust collecting container has a bottom surface and a side surface which surrounds the bottom surface. The through-hole is formed at the dust collecting container to suck air. The projection unit is installed at the inner wall of the dust collecting container to surround the through-hole. A filter is installed at the inner part of the dust collecting container to filter air and at the upper part of the projection unit to communicate the through-hole with a suction hole formed at the filter. A sealing member is placed between the filter and the projection unit.
