PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator capable of suppressing reduction in energy density and constituting a lithium secondary battery superior in safety while securing reliability of the battery, and the lithium secondary battery having the separator. SOLUTION: This is the lithium secondary battery which has the separator for the lithium secondary battery that has at least a porous sheet consisting of a woven cloth or a nonwoven cloth, and which has insulating particulates (A), and in which the porous sheet is a laminate of at least two layers or more, and which has at least a negative electrode containing an active material capable of storing and releasing lithium, a positive electrode containing the active material capable of storing and releasing lithium, and the above separator for the lithium secondary battery.
