PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery having a simple structure, and composed by effectively preventing an internal short circuit caused by a burr or crack present in an edge part of a positive electrode body. SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery is structured such that an electrode group formed by rolling a sheet-like positive electrode body 1 and a sheet-like negative electrode body by interposing two separators 3 therebetween is housed in a bottomed cylindrical armoring body; an edge part of the negative electrode body projected from one end of the electrode group is connected to the armoring body; and an edge part of the positive electrode body projected from the other end of the electrode group is connected to a sealing body sealing an opening of the armoring body. In particular, the edge part of the positive electrode body 1 rolled in the negative electrode body through the separator 3 is covered with a folded edge part 3a folded back to the outside in the rolling direction of the separator 3 positioned inside the positive electrode body 1.
